Shin Getter Robo: Prelude to Destruction

The second-to-last chapter is here! I had it posted it up yesterday, but blogspot was down.
Getter Robo Saga - Shin Getter Robo Chapter 8 (of 9)
Megaupload

The final chapter will be out next week! It features an altered ending, so be sure to check it out. I'll be taking down all links to the old Shin Getter Robo scanlation once I'm done with this new version due to irrelevance.

  1. I'm waiting to re-read Shin Getter until Getter G is finished (I wanna follow Brai's arc from the beginning), but it looks FANTASTIC and it's awesome to know that you're working so hard on it. Thanks so much!

  2. Thanks, Getter Tchiim-u! Btw what torrent are you going to delete again?

Sorry for the lame question, but did you do the complete Devilman?

In what order should i read Getter Robo again? Honestly i've never read any of Nagai or Ken's lobotto mangas so far...

I'm going to be taking down the Shin Getter Robo torrent (the old version of the scanlation, this one: http://deadfrog.fapis.com/entry.html?id=11954) because I'm almost done with the most current version.

Devilman was the first scanlation I ever worked on, back in 2008. I did it in joint with my friend Anonymous K and Dark Ruffy back before I started this blog. From there, I began working with a bunch of different translators to translate other Dynamic Pro manga.

    >In what order should i read Getter Robo again?

Getter Robo should be read in this order:

    Getter Robo
    Getter Robo G
    Getter Robo Go
    Shin Getter Robo
    Getter Robo Arc

Unfortunately, Getter Robo G isn't translated at this time, so I would suggest reading the original series, and then moving onto Getter Robo Go.

  4. After you're done with Shin Getter are you planning on doing those minor tweaks to the Saga version of Getter Robo Go? I think you said it was just that one flashback scene, right?

Really looking forward to Ah/Arc/Ark, as well... the brief description on Wikipedia sounds crazy!

    That's a good question.

The new story material in the saga version of Getter Robo Go is literally only one page front and back. The rest is identical to the version I previously worked on.

But, the saga version of Getter Robo Go features Ishikawa's "Getter and I" comic essay. Seeing as I'd have to rip up the books to scan it, I might just redo Getter Robo Go while I'm at it since my book would be destroyed.

I'm kind of undecided. Getter Robo Go is the longest portion of the Getter Saga, so it'd be a lot of work. But on the other hand, doing the rest of the Saga versions of Getter and not doing Go seems like doing an incomplete job, and it would be nice to be able to fix up the translation and have better scans.

tl;dr I'll probably do it, but not anytime soon.

  6. Ah. That makes sense... maybe in the meantime you could do a quick & crappy scan of the new page? Just slap the book on the scanner without ripping it up? Or even just take a photo? Duzn't need to be perfect - we just wanna read it!

I thought the previous job on Getter Robo Go was pretty great. Not quite as crisp as your Shin Getter work, maybe, but certainly nothing to complain about.

    Thanks again!

  7. Possibly, but you can't even get a readable scan past the middle point of the page without breaking the binding (aka destroying it) on these pocket books. So I'll have to decline for now. It'll get scanned eventually, though.

  8. Better late than never! I've finally begun my journey into the world of Getter manga! You guys here at Dynamic Pro have done a SPECTACULAR job with the trans/scanslations. Thank you so much for all of your hard work. I had a question about the differences between Getter Robo/Shin Getter Robo, and the versions you've scanned and released as "Getter Robo Saga".

Was your previous release a translation of the original NON-Saga version of these stories? If so, was there any way that a DL link or something could be put up, so the completists like me can say they read it all? The differences, even miniscule as you say, would be really fun to spot.

  9. Yes, the old release of Shin Getter Robo was the non-saga version. There are various differences in composition and scenes. You can download the old scanlation here:

  10. Thanks so much! I can't wait to read this and compare. Did you also have Non-Saga scans of the original and GR Go too? I know this topic has been covered ad nauseum on here, but I keep confusing myself.

  11. There are non-Saga scans of the original floating around, but you'll need to get them yourself as I've never scanlated them.

For Getter Robo Go, the scanlation on this site is the non-Saga version. You can easily tell if its saga or not by the file name (if it is saga, it will say so).
