Yay volume 3 is complete so now I can stop torturing myself and read the whole thing in one sitting which I just did XP. D'aaaw Gaia is such a nice robot being all protective and stuff X3.
ReplyDeleteWondering about whether or not I should read this, so a quick question (Google, Wikipedia and TvTropes are being very unhelpful in describing this manga):
ReplyDeleteWhat is this like? Serious? Silly? Over the top? Down to earth? Apocalyptic? Romantic? Great writing? Great drawings?
Basically I want to know what makes this cool so I can decide whether or not it's something I'd want to check out.
It's by Yokoyama Mitsuteru, which should be more than enough reason to read it. Though, sadly, he's rather unknown to English anime fans despite his monumental contributions to anime and manga in general.
DeleteBut yes, Mars is definitely worth a read. It's an apocalyptic sci-fi tale featuring giant robots and super-humans. The story looks at the base nature of humanity as a whole and tries to think of what kind of future a race of beings such as us could possibly have should we continue unchecked and as we are.
Hey Im a bit late to the party but I just read Getter Robo G and I must say I understand why you did some of the other sequels first. G felt like filler. Pretty good filler, but still. Was it a tie-in with the tv show the way Mazinger was in the second half?
ReplyDeleteOriginally, Getter Robo and Getter Robo G were published as one manga series, so essentially G is the second half of the original manga.
DeleteForgive me if people have already asked this, but are you maybe planning on translating Babel II after this is finished? Or whenever, really. I always hear rad stuff about that, especially since the real identity of Big Fire from Giant Robo: The Day The Earth Stood Still is from that.
ReplyDeleteYou'll probably get a more definitive answer if you ask Wright over at HappyScans, but I'm pretty sure we'll be scanlating Babel II at some point. I'd definitely like to see it translated.
